Here's a thing I didn't buy: Lauren Manoogian Entrelac Sweater

 Here's the thing I didn't buy.

Here's the thing I didn't buy.

Lauren Manoogian, purveyor of dramatic knitwear, magician of combining "gently manipulated textures, an integral language of detail and an understated yet discernible shape."

In today's edition of Things I Didn't Buy, I didn't buy this gorgeous Lauren Manoogian entrelac cropped pullover sweater. While I have not had the pleasure of encountering a LM garment in the wild, I admire many from afar on the internet. Many of her designs are a little WTF? to me, but an equal number are just jaw-dropping.

I'm a sucker for texture, and this sweater has it in spades. The beautiful knit looks like big ribbons of sweater have been woven together but it's all a special kind of knitting called entrelac. There's a long version of the pullover too that ups the drama even more, but it's this cropped one that feels more wearable to me.

Look how the v of knit ribbons frames her face! So thoughtfully designed.

Unlike past things I didn't buy, this sweater is something I can totally see getting a lot of wear in my closet. First of all, long sleeves. I tend to avoid a big chunky sweater if it's just got 3/4 sleeves; it sort of defeats the purpose of wearing a sweater to me. The sweaters I found myself adding to the rotation this winter were all thinner, more form-fitting cashmere knits. This chunky pullover is quite the departure from those and makes a much bigger statement. Throw this on over skinny jeans and vanquish all feelings of looking basic. Bonus: white will hide cat hair.

The reason I'm not buying this sweater despite its loveliness is because it's really pricey — $460. Everything else is a slam dunk for me. To be clear, I think it's completely worth it the price based on the thoughtful design, materials, and unique construction — but I just can't plop that kind of cash on a sweater right now. I'll be keeping my eye on it for sure though!

I can so see myself in this sweater. Not so much the sweater skirt over sweater pants with a sweater bag, although the model looks lovely.

Have you ever tried Lauren Manoogian garments? What was your experience? Do her garments ever go on sale? I would love to hear your feedback.
